Some Thoughts on the Progress of Memory Loss over a Period of Time, Part 7

Pat is just about holding her own in the memory of things, probably because I have been able to get her into a day care centre on two days a week now. The second day is devoted to arts and crafts, of which she was very fond, and seems to have brought about a halt in the downward slide in her memory capability, probably because of the extra stimulation she gets and the fact that she is meeting a new set of people. She remains quite fit physically and that also helps to keep things on an even keel. I try to keep myself fit also as she does not have the capability to look after the general living side of things and, right now, would resent anyone coming into the house to help out. A most strange state of mind but, obviously, it due to her being so competent in the past. Old habits die hard! But going on as we are I see no reason why we should not get to our Diamond Anniversary next year. Who would ever have thought it!!

How do you spend your leisure time? New research shows that adults who do some type of physical activity in their leisure time can add as many as 4.5 years to their life. Researchers looked at data on 650,000 people, most of them aged 40 or older. Even a little physical activity added years to the lives of people whether they were normal weight, overweight, or obese. For example, people who did the equivalent of 75 minutes of brisk walking a week added 1.8 years to their life. The equivalent of 150 minutes of brisk walking added 3.4 years. Researchers with NIH's National Cancer Institute conducted the study.
